Football Focus: Chichester City Colts Team Up with Mud

Backing grassroots talent – one golden pie at a time!

We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that Mud is now the official home shirt sponsor of the Chichester City Colts U11 Reds. As passionate supporters of local talent (and lovers of the beautiful game), it’s a real privilege to be part of the journey with this brilliant team of young footballers, managed by Dan Shortt (seen above with Christian).

It all came about thanks to Graham Legg, who works at Mud and whose son, Stanley, plays for the team. The Chi Colts were on the lookout for a sponsor when Graham cooked up the idea, pitched it to Christian and the rest, as they say, is history!

After a recent training session, the team dropped by the bakery at St James in Chichester to meet Christian and show him their brand new kits - now featuring the Mud logo front and centre. And, we have to say, they look incredible! It’s a real moment of pride to see our name on those shirts, worn by such a hardworking, talented and determined group of kids.

These young stars aren’t just turning heads with their kits - they’ve already made a name for themselves on the pitch.  Last season, they brought home the cup, and now we’re backing them all the way for another fantastic run. With their drive, energy, and team spirit, we’re hoping this season will be as golden as our pie crusts!

Mud Pies and Football - The Perfect Pairing

There’s no match day tradition quite like grabbing a hot pie at half time. Whether you’re huddled on the sidelines in the drizzle or cheering from the stands with a flask in hand, a warm, tasty pie is a British football staple - and one we take very seriously at Mud.

Here at the bakery, we reckon there’s no better fuel for players, parents, or supporters than a proper handcrafted pie filled to the brim with flavour and wrapped in our signature buttery shortcrust pastry.

If you’re heading to a game, the top two flavours we’d recommend for the ultimate match day bite are:

• Steak & Ale - a rich, slow-cooked beef filling in dark ale gravy. It’s warming, hearty, and built to keep spirits high through extra time.
• Chicken, Ham & Leek - creamy, comforting, and full of goodness. A hit with kids, grown-ups, and just about anyone who tries it!

These are our best-sellers for a reason - and they taste even better when eaten outdoors!

We’re honoured to be supporting the Chi Colts, and we’re proud to be doing our bit to encourage youth sports in our community. It’s not just about kits and logos - it’s about being part of something meaningful: kids learning teamwork, confidence and resilience, all while having a blast.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on the U11 Reds this season and cheering them on at every opportunity.  Here’s to goals, having fun, mud-splattered boots - and, of course, perfectly baked pies.
