Calling all pie lovers

British Pie Week, which celebrates the Great British pie in all its glorious forms, is a wonderful opportunity to bring people together to enjoy some delicious food and have fun.
British Pie Week was founded in 2007 by Jus-Rol, a pastry-rolling company, and has since turned into a yearly national event, which incorporates the British Pie Awards, held in Melton Mowbray, the spiritual home of pies!

In honour of the humble pie

Pies have been a staple of our nation’s cuisine for centuries and highlighting this special week is a way to honour this rich history and encourage people to try new flavours and styles of pies. It’s also a chance to reflect on and appreciate the skill and craftsmanship that goes into making a great pie. From the crumbly pastry to the tasty filling, a well-made pie is a thing of beauty, and the art of good pie-making is something to behold!

You can’t beat a good pie

One reason pies are so popular in the UK is their comforting and satisfying nature. Pies are often associated with home-cooked meals and family gatherings, and they evoke feelings of warmth, happiness and nostalgia. British Pie Week is the perfect opportunity to gather your friends and family together round the table.

Novel ideas to try at home

There are endless possibilities for a memorable and fun-filled celebration. Here are a few:
Why not host a pie night? You can ask each person to bring their own homemade pie, or you can order a selection of locally sourced, wholesome pies from Mud Pies. From our classic Steak and Ale Pie, to our quirky Chip Shop Chicken Curry Pie, which won Aldi’s Next Big Thing on Channel 4 last year, to our award-winning vegan option Squash, Spinach and Feta, there are plenty of mouth-watering flavours to choose from.
To make the evening even more special, you can decorate your table with pie-themed decorations, such as plates and napkins with pie illustrations. You can also play pie-themed games, such as guessing the pie flavours blindfolded, or creating your own pie trivia quiz.
Or get the adrenalin pumping and have a pie-eating contest: challenge your friends and family to see who can eat a whole pie the fastest. You could time them or have a panel of judges to determine the winner. Just make sure to have plenty of napkins and wipes on hand!
